Bill to ban employers from asking salary history signed into law

Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 168 into law today, placing new restrictions and requirements on employers during the hiring process.

AB 168, authored by Assemblywoman Susan Talamantes Eggman (D-Stockton), would bar employers from inquiring about an applicant’s salary history for determining a job offer or prospective salary. The new law will also require employers to provide applicants, upon reasonable request, with a pay scale for a prospective job.
